THE SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION FOR ROOF OVERHANGS Roof BLOCK IS THE RESPONSIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL CHOICE Whole Life Costing is a tool to assist in assessing the cost performance of construction work, aimed at facilitating choices where there are alternative means of achieving the client’s objectives and where those alternatives differ, not only in their initial costs but also in their subsequent operational costs.
An independent report by the Building Research Establishment on the Whole Life Cost of the masonry roof overhang in comparison with both timber and uPVC concluded that Roof BLOCK had not only the lowest initial capital cost, but over the life of a building it was considerably less expensive to maintain than the current timber based roof overhangs.
The BRE Green Guide to Housing Specification provides guidance to designers and specifiers on the environmental impacts of common specifications used in housing. The above diagram shows that Roof BLOCK specification assessed receives a Green Guide rating of 'B'.
